Karachi: On 8 September 2026 at approximately 9:30 p.m., nine unidentified and reportedly armed individuals, allegedly linked to Pakistani security and intelligence agencies, arrived in two vehicles and reportedly raided the Karachi residence of Sarang Hyder (Sarang Sindhi), Coordinator of the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh, Europe Chapter.
According to Sarang Hyder’s cousin and his family, the individuals allegedly harassed, intimidated, and threatened Sarang’s ill cousin, Qamar, and his family members. They reportedly searched the residence, ransacked rooms, and allegedly took some books, documents, and other personal materials. During the alleged raid, the individuals reportedly conveyed a threatening message to Sarang Hyder (Sarang Sindhi), warning him to “Rein in his voice abroad and stop using such harsh language as he did during the London protest on 30 August 2026.” and implying that failure to do so could result in more serious consequences.
Sohail Abro, Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement, and Sorath Lohar, Convener of the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh, strongly condemned the alleged incident. They expressed serious concern that Sarang Hyder could face further intimidation, surveillance, harassment, or retaliation because of his international human-rights advocacy concerning enforced disappearances and alleged violations in Sindh. They told that Sarang Hyder has raised Human rights voices for enforced disappearances in Sindh in London, Geneva, The Hague, Brussels, and other international forums, including issues affecting Sindhis, Baloch, Pashtoons, Kashmiris, and other communities.
They condemned pressure, surveillance, intimidation, or threats allegedly connected to Pakistani security and intelligence institutions, including the ISI, MI, CTD, and Pakistan Rangers against Human rights activits in Sindh.They further expressed concern that human-rights defenders and voices speaking against enforced disappearances and abuses may be facing increasing pressure and intimidation, including through alleged actions targeting them.
Sohail Abro and Sorath Lohar urged Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), UN human-rights mechanisms, and other national and international human-rights organisations to urgently take notice of the alleged incident, call for an independent investigation, and closely monitor the safety and security of Sarang Hyder, his relatives, and other persons associated with his human-rights advocacy.
